Plot Synopsis
Players are met by Isiden Perenolde, a nephew of the former king of Alterac. Once supported by Greymane in his bid for the Alteraci throne, he left Gilneas in anger when Greymane switched his support to Daval Prestor (Deathwing) and later died to the scourge. Now a Forsaken, he has come to you with an interesting proposal; help the Syndicate retake Alterac and bring the fallen human kingdom into the Horde.
While Horde leadership is skeptical, Isiden belives it is possible. Although the Syndicate/Alteraci are not historically fond of the Horde races, the Syndicate is currently run by Beve Perenolde, daughter and eldest child of Aiden Perenolde. Isiden belives he can leverage his familial relationship to establish some form of negotiations.
Isiden asks you to accompany him to a meeting with Beve as he wishes to offer the Horde's aid in retaking the ruined city and kingdom of Alterac from the Crushridge ogres, in exchange for acting as an anchor for the Horde in the increasingly Alliance dominated Eastern Kingdoms.
Beve is initially irreceptive, finding the idea of forging an alliance with the Horde to be distasteful and knowing it'd be a hard sell to the people she commands. However the news of the Alliance's efforts to rebuild Stromgarde, Alterac's hated rival, drives her to listen to the Horde’s offer. Eventually she offers to ally with the Horde if, and only if, they help reclaim the city of Alterac.
Negotiations are interrupted however by an assault from Stromgarde. Wanting the Syndicate out of their lands, they've brought their full might against Dabyrie's Farmstead and the Syndicate couldn't be less prepared. With the help of the Horde, the Syndicate manage to fight off the attackers, but it becomes quite clear to all parties that their position in the Arathi Highlands is no longer tenable.
Isiden heads off to marshal some of the Horde's forces as the player travels with the Syndicate to Strahnbrad where they will meet up with Isiden and the Horde. In Strahnbrad, the player is met by a small force of horde soldiers who have marched up from Andorhal. The plan is then put together and the combined Syndicate and Horde forces march on the ruins of Alterac City. During the battle, the Syndicate assassinates the Crushridge leader and the remaining ogres are then rounded up and captured.
With Alterac City back in the hands of the Syndicate, Isiden's end of the bargain is fulfilled. Surrounded by Horde forces, and seeing the benefit of keeping this alliance, Beve chooses to honor her end as well and pledges her people to the Horde so long as the alliance remains beneficial. With things settled, the Alteraci begin the process of rebuilding their city using the remaining Crushridge as manual labor, while Isiden and the player return to Orgrimmar to give the good news.
Design Goals
-
Utilize and reaffirm some old lore for an interesting faction.
-
Bring a core Alliance race to the Horde in a convincing way.
-
Familiarize myself with designing various pieces of content; quests, allied race, spells, story writing.
Risks and Solutions
R: Players being opposed to humans on the Horde.
S: There will always be some players who will oppose. I believe I have minimized this risk as much as possible by utilizing a combination of past , non-canon rpg, and new lore.
R: Players being upset about Horde getting the thin human model rather than the Alliance.
S: For the purposes of this project I have assumed this is unavoidable. The best thing I feel I can do is make the race cool enough that this is soon forgotten.
R: Racial abilities not feeling compelling, or properly emblematic. Especially in relation to the falcon, which is a part of character customization as well as a racial.
S: While designing this I went through many iterations of racial abilities before landing at what you see on this page. This isn't to say that the ones that were not chosen are bad, simply that they weren't chosen. If any of these racials prove to be lackluster during early testing, I have a backlog of other ideas that can be readily substituted.
